PreConstruction Manager
Pre-Construction Engineer (Electrical)
Advance Grid Solutions Ltd
Advance Grid Solutions is a specialist EPC and ICP contractor delivering grid-connected Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar PV developments and associated HV infrastructure throughout the UK.
We design, construct, commission and energise critical electrical infrastructure connecting renewable energy projects to the grid. With multiple projects progressing simultaneously across the UK, we are looking for a Pre-Construction Engineer (Electrical) to strengthen our front-end delivery capability and ensure our tenders are accurate, robust, and buildable from day one.
We are looking for someone who can take a client's requirements, technical specifications and design information and turn them into a structured, commercially sound, and deliverable scope of works. You'll become the technical support and owner of the electrical pre-construction process, ensuring that what we tender is exactly what gets delivered on site.
The Role
Reporting directly into the senior leadership team, you will sit between engineering, commercial and operations, providing the technical due diligence required to develop accurate bids and well-defined subcontract packages -this is critical to the success of this role.
Your role will start with understanding exactly what the client is asking us to deliver and finish with a seamless handover to the delivery team once the project is awarded.
You will be responsible for reducing risk, eliminating scope gaps, and ensuring our projects are set up correctly before construction begins.
Key Responsibilities
Tender Engineering
Review Employer's Requirements, technical specifications, drawings, and grid connection documentation.
Identify compliance requirements, exclusions, assumptions, and technical risks.
Produce compliance and deviation schedules.
Issue technical queries during tender periods and manage responses.
Develop electrical scope definitions covering HV, LV, protection, auxiliary systems, earthing, containment, cables, and control systems.
Complete quantity takeoffs and support cost build-ups.
Work closely with commercial and estimating teams to develop robust pricing.
Support value engineering proposals and alternative technical solutions.
Ensure all tender submissions are technically accurate and commercially deliverable.
Subcontract Package Development is a critical function of this role.
Produce clear electrical scopes of work for subcontract enquiries.
Define testing and commissioning requirements.
Produce inspection and test plan requirements.
Define hold points, witness points, and quality requirements.
Develop responsibility matrices covering supply, installation, testing, and commissioning.
Clearly identify interfaces between civil, electrical, and commissioning activities.
Ensure subcontract enquiries are complete and leave minimal room for interpretation.
Technically assess and normalise returned quotations to enable genuine like-for-like comparisons.
Project Handover
Lead technical handovers to delivery teams following contract award.
Transfer all assumptions, qualifications, and technical obligations.
Ensure project managers understand contractual requirements and key risks.
Support delivery teams where clarification on original tender assumptions is required.

You won't just be supporting the pricing of projects.
You'll be developing the technical standards, scope libraries and pre-construction processes that underpin how we deliver major grid-connected energy infrastructure throughout the UK.
You will work directly with senior management and see the projects you help win through to construction and energisation.
If you've ever looked at a project and thought, "this was destined for variations because the scope was never properly defined," then this is your chance to fix that problem before it gets to site.
