Conventional Grinder
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Conventional Grinder to join our clients manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating a range of conventional grinding machinery, including cylindrical grinders, bore grinders and surface grinders, producing high-precision components to engineering drawings and tight dimensional tolerances.

Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate conventional cylindrical grinding machines to produce precision components.
- Set and operate internal/bore grinding machines to achieve accurate internal diameters and finishes.
- Set and operate surface grinding machines for precision flat and parallel surfaces.
- Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
- Select appropriate grinding wheels, tooling and workholding methods for different materials and components.
- Work to tight dimensional tolerances and achieve specified surface finishes.
- Identify and rectify issues affecting component quality, accuracy or surface finish.
- Maintain accurate records of measurements and production information where required.
- Ensure machines, tooling and the working area are kept clean, safe and well maintained.
- Follow company quality procedures, health and safety requirements and manufacturing instructions.
- Work efficiently to production schedules while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
Conventional Grinder
The Candidate
- Proven experience working as a conventional grinding machinist.
- Practical experience operating cylindrical, bore/internal and surface grinders.
- Ability to work accurately to tight engineering tolerances.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Good knowledge of grinding wheels, dressing techniques and grinding processes.
- Competent using precision measuring equipment.
- Strong understanding of materials, cutting/grinding conditions and surface finishes.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads to meet deadlines.
- Good general engineering and workshop knowledge.
- Experience working with one-off, small-batch or precision components.
- Experience grinding hardened steels and other difficult-to-machine materials.
