OverviewAn exciting opportunity to appoint an Inclusion and Engagement Research Lead to support the NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) and Clinical Research Facility (CRF) in delivering Patient and Public Involvement, Engagement and Participation (PPIEP) and Equality and Diversity Inclusion (EDI) objectives. The post requires autonomy to embed the patient voice in clinical trials research across Cheshire and Merseyside and to represent the Clinical Directors at a National Level.
Responsibilities
Plan and deliver CRDC and CRF Public Participation Inclusion strategy to ensure the public influence projects.
Develop and chair an advisory board involving people with lived experience of trial participation and other networks as required, to ensure citizen perspectives inform CRDC and CRF outcomes.
Collaborate with public engagement groups across Cheshire and Merseyside (e.g., Innovation Agency, Liverpool Health Partners, Applied Research Collaboration) to share best practice and transfer knowledge for wider public benefit.
Communicate findings to peers, policy makers, stakeholders, and opinion leaders using audience-appropriate methods (including lay summaries and academic publications).
Design and conduct research/evaluation studies, including community conversations about local residents’ perceptions of CRDC/CRF work and public engagement activities.
Deliver podcasts and other engagement materials focusing on clinical trials and health data use, ensuring both public and health professional voices are heard.
Co-produce communication materials.
Produce local and national Annual Reports, Staff Newsletters, and CRDC and UKCRDC Network web content.
Qualifications
First degree and/or equivalent experience
Good Clinical Practice
Leadership/management training
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Postgraduate qualification (relevant field) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
Up to date safeguarding training
Up to date GDPR training; demonstrable experience leading and managing a range of PPI/E activities within an NHS clinical research context
Advanced communication skills across a variety of service users and senior management groups
Collaborative working with NIHR infrastructure and external organisations
Running and leading training events to a range of groups
Senior clinical and/or managerial experience enabling initiation, development and implementation of significant programmes of work without supervision
Organising focus groups with the public/patients
Developing Involvement and Engagement and/or Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategies
Managing resources, particularly budgetary responsibilities
Service development/project management in NHS relating to service user involvement and EDI
Proven strategic leadership and ability to lead and manage change through influence without direct management
