Power Electronics Engineer (SiC)
Contract: 6 months initial (strong likelihood of extension), Outside IR35, Bristol, Remote
Start: ASAP
Project Scope
The SiC Designer will be responsible for the design, simulation, and optimization of (SiC) power semiconductor devices, supporting next-generation high-voltage, high-efficiency, and high-reliability power electronics. The role spans early device concept through to prototype testing and manufacturable designs, collaborating closely with process, packaging, and system engineering teams.
Devices include MOSFETs, diodes, and power modules for applications such as electric vehicles, renewable energy inverters, and industrial power systems.
Technical Scope
- Design and simulate SiC power devices using TCAD or equivalent simulation tools.
- Optimize device structures for performance metrics including breakdown voltage, on-resistance, switching speed, and thermal performance.
- Collaborate with process engineers to ensure manufacturability and scalability.
- Develop detailed design documentation, specifications, and reports.
- Support cross-functional teams in system integration and application testing.
Required Experience
- Strong background in semiconductor device physics, preferably with wide-bandgap materials like SiC.
- Experience with device simulation tools such as TCAD (Sentaurus, Silvaco, etc.).
- Knowledge of power electronics applications and system-level requirements.
- Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes is highly desirable.
- Comfortable working in structured, documentation-heavy R&D environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
