Power Electronics Engineer
Contract: 6 months initial, Outside IR35, Oxford, 2 days per week
Rate: -60-80 per hour
Project Scope
The Power Electronics Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of power electronic systems for advanced electrification applications in harsh environments. The role spans the full development lifecycle, from concept and topology selection through simulation, prototyping, and testing, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Technical Scope
* Design and develop power converters (AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC) across a range of power levels (100kW+).
* Evaluate and implement suitable converter topologies (flyback, boost...etc) and validate designs through simulation.
* Develop power electronic drive systems for electric motors, including sensorless control approaches where applicable.
* Design switching power supplies.
* Investigate and address key challenges related to system electrification, including efficiency, reliability, and performance.
* Support system integration, testing, and validation activities.
Required Experience
* Strong background in power electronics design, including converters and motor drives.
* Experience with Cadence Allegro
* Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, or LTspice.
* Knowledge of switching devices (IGBTs, MOSFETs) and control techniques for power converters.
* Understanding of thermal management, efficiency optimisation, and system-level design.
* Experience with hardware prototyping, testing, and validation.
