The School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW has an opportunity for a Research Associate. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow is required to carry out scientific research on an aspect of an ARC Discovery Project on “A Probabilistic Approach to Big Data-Based Industrial Process Control” (DP250101137). The Postdoctoral Research Fellow is expected to undertake research on control theory and machine learning techniques for project DP250101137. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work with the Process Control Group in the School of Chemical Engineering. This role reports to Professor Jie Bao and has no direct reports.
Salary, Level A - $91,381 - $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation

Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia
Responsibilities
Carry out scientific research on an aspect of the ARC Discovery Project DP250101137.
Undertake research on control theory and machine learning techniques for the project.
Collaborate with the Process Control Group in the School of Chemical Engineering and report to Professor Jie Bao.
Contribute to scholarly publications and presentations as appropriate to the project.
Qualifications and Skills
PhD in Engineering or Mathematics.
Demonstrated skills and experience with process control and modern control theories including nonlinear control and stochastic systems theory, ideally behavioural systems theory and applications.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
Strong mathematical skills.
Understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values, together with relevant policies and guidelines.

Fixed-term contract – 24 months
Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia
