Postdoctoral Research Associate in Synthetic Organic Chemistry

OverviewPostdoctoral Research Associate in Synthetic Organic Chemistry at King''s College London. The position is based in the Department of Chemistry and is within the Cobb group, with collaboration with the group of Professor Craig Butts at the University of Bristol. The project aims to design powerful modular asymmetric catalysts inspired by helices found in nature and to advance foldamer research and synthetic methodologies.
About the roleThe Cobb group is seeking a passionate and creative scientist to join as a postdoctoral researcher in synthetic organic chemistry. The successful candidate will work on designing and applying foldamer catalysts to a range of stereoselective processes, including organocatalytic and photocatalytic reactions. The role involves collaboration with faculty and collaborating groups, access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, and opportunities to publish and contribute to scientific discovery.
Responsibilities
Design and execute the synthesis of novel foldamer catalysts.
Apply catalysts to stereoselective processes, including organocatalytic and photocatalytic reactions.
Collaborate with the Cobb group and with the group of Professor Craig Butts at the University of Bristol.
Work with state-of-the-art instrumentation, including high throughput experimentation.
Contribute to publications and present results to the research team and in external venues.
Qualifications
PhD in Organic Chemistry or a related field.
Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry, and/or solid phase peptide synthesis.
Demonstrated track record of high-quality research with publications in reputable journals.
Excellent communication skills and experience writing up research results for publication.
Desired skills and experience
Experience in asymmetric synthesis and determination of enantiomeric excess.
Experience in applying density functional theory (DFT).
Evidence of independent funding.
About youTo be successful in this role, candidates should have the following skills and experience:
A PhD in synthetic organic chemistry (or pending results).
Experience in multistep synthetic chemistry.
Experience in solid phase peptide synthesis.
Experience in separation and characterization of small to medium sized molecules.
Experience in key spectroscopic techniques.
A strong record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Excellent communication skills for writing and presenting scientifically.
