Due to continued growth and development, our client is a leading UK manufacturer of commercial vehicle trailers and rigid vehicle bodies, is looking to appoint seven experienced Production / Manufacturing Managers across a number of key areas within its Stoke-on-Trent manufacturing operations.

These are excellent opportunities for experienced manufacturing leaders to join a well-established British engineering manufacturer responsible for designing and producing highly engineered commercial vehicle bodies and trailers for some of the UK's largest transport and logistics operators.

Day Shift – 4 Positions

Monday–Thursday: 7:30am–5:00pm
Friday: 7:30am–12:00pm

Night Shift – 3 Positions

Monday–Thursday: 6:00pm–6:00am

THE ROLES

While each position is responsible for a different area of the manufacturing operation, Don-Bur is primarily looking for experienced managers with strong manufacturing, engineering or production backgrounds who have the leadership capability and technical understanding to take ownership of their respective departments.

Previous experience within truck, trailer or commercial vehicle body manufacturing would naturally be advantageous, but is not essential.

Candidates could come from a variety of relevant engineering and manufacturing environments where they have gained an understanding of comparable production processes, people management, quality, Health & Safety and delivery against demanding production schedules.

Depending on the position, relevant backgrounds could include fabrication, welding, automotive, commercial vehicles, transport equipment, heavy engineering, sheet metal, metal forming, assembly, fitting, machinery manufacture or other similar production environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities will vary according to the department, but will typically include:

  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of a manufacturing or operational department.
  • Lead, manage and develop production teams to achieve required performance levels.
  • Ensure production targets, schedules and customer delivery requirements are achieved.
  • Plan and coordinate labour, materials and resources according to production requirements.
  • Monitor departmental performance against agreed KPIs and production targets.
  • Drive productivity, efficiency and operational performance.
  • Maintain high standards of product quality and workmanship.
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures and safe working practices are consistently followed.
  • Identify production issues, bottlenecks and resource constraints and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Work closely with other Production Managers and departments to maintain effective production flow.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Stores, Planning and other operational functions where required.
  • Develop team capability through coaching, training and performance management.
  • Manage absence, conduct, performance and other day-to-day people-management responsibilities.
  • Promote a positive, accountable and performance-driven working environment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing operation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, productivity, quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure departmental standards, procedures and company policies are maintained.

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE

The successful candidates will ideally demonstrate:

  • Proven management or senior supervisory experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong people-management and leadership capability.
  • Experience managing production teams within a busy manufacturing operation.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing and production processes relevant to one or more of the available departments.
  • Experience working to production schedules, targets and deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing quality requirements.
  • Ability to manage people, resources and competing production priorities.
  • Experience monitoring and improving operational performance.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to identify production issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement, productivity or process improvements would be advantageous.
