PMLD Teaching Assistant - Specialist School - Guildford GU5

Are you a patient, compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong background supporting children and young people with PMLD and complex needs?

We are recruiting for a PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Guildford GU5 area, supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and a range of additional needs.

This role would suit someone who is passionate about specialist education and understands the importance of providing personalised, nurturing and consistent support.

As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with PMLD and complex needs.

• Support pupils inside and outside the classroom.

• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

• Support communication, sensory development, physical development and emotional wellbeing.

• Assist with personalised learning programmes and individual targets.

• Use appropriate sensory, communication and therapeutic approaches.

• Support pupils with PMLD, SLD, Autism, physical disabilities and complex learning needs.

• Encourage independence, communication and functional life skills.

• Support personal care and mobility needs where required, following appropriate training.

• Follow individual EHCP, care and support plans.

• Work closely with teachers, therapists, SENCOs and other professionals.

• Monitor pupil progress, engagement and wellbeing.

• Help maintain a calm, safe and stimulating learning environment.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Strong experience supporting pupils with PMLD or complex needs.

• Experience within SEN schools, specialist provisions, residential care or similar settings.

• Understanding of sensory needs, communication difficulties and personalised support.

• Confidence supporting pupils with personal care and physical needs.

• A calm, patient and highly adaptable approach.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• The ability to follow individual support and care plans.

• Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.

Experience with Makaton, PECS, AAC, sensory approaches, moving and handling or other specialist support strategies would be beneficial.

A formal teaching qualification is not essential. If you have strong hands-on experience supporting pupils with PMLD or complex needs, we''d like to hear from you.
