About the role:
You will support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) within a dedicated specialist provision set within a large, mainstream secondary school in Newham. Working closely with teachers and therapists, you will help deliver personalised, engaging learning experiences that focus on communication, sensory development, and independence skills.
We''re looking for a compassionate and proactive candidate to:
- Support students with complex learning needs, including physical, sensory and medical requirements
- Assist in the delivery of tailored, multi-sensory lessons and activities
- Provide personal care where required, maintaining dignity and respect at all times
- Promote communication using a range of strategies (e.g. Makaton, PECS, sensory cues)
- Foster a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals
- Support students'' social, emotional and physical development
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly PMLD (desirable but not essential)
- A caring, patient and resilient approach
- A willingness to support personal care needs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting students with complex needs
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Care or SEND-related qualifications) are advantageous but not essential
A commitment to raising achievement and improving outcomes for students with complex needs is essential.
