A nurturing and specialist primary school in Milton Keynesandnbsp;is seeking a dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistantandnbsp;to support pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with a background in healthcare, care work, or SEN education who is passionate about supporting children with complex needs in a safe, structured, and caring environment.
About the Role:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with PMLD, including those with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and complex medical needs
- Support pupils with personal care, feeding, and mobility, always maintaining their dignity and comfort
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and medical staff to implement personalised learning and care plans
- Use specialist equipment and communication tools (e.g., switches, eye gaze technology, Makaton, PECS) to enhance pupil engagement and communication
- Help create a calm, sensory-friendly learning environment that supports wellbeing and focus
- Record and monitor pupil progress, behaviour, and health-related observations, working closely with the wider team
The ideal candidate will:
- Background in healthcare, care, or special educational needs settings (e.g., nursing assistant, support worker, SEN teaching assistant)
- Patient, empathetic, and proactive in supporting children with complex and diverse needs
- Comfortable assisting with personal care and using mobility aids or hoists (training available if required)
- Effective communicator with the ability to work collaboratively with families, colleagues, and external professionals
- Strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and ongoing professional development
