We are seeking skilled and experienced Fabricator Platers to join a major defence shipbuilding programme in Glasgow. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a long-term naval engineering project, fabricating and assembling large steel structures that contribute to the construction of complex vessels.



What you''ll be doing:

  • Interpreting engineering drawings and marking out materials ready for fabrication.
  • Preparing plate using a range of fabrication techniques, including oxy-fuel cutting, grinding and edge preparation.
  • Fabricating and assembling structural steelwork including shell plating, decks, bulkheads, frames and longitudinals.
  • Manufacturing a variety of fabricated components including hatches, ladders, access platforms, flooring systems, equipment foundations and other steel assemblies.
  • Forming materials using fabrication machinery such as rollers, presses, guillotines, croppers and mechanical saws.
  • Tack welding components to aid assembly in line with engineering drawings and quality standards.
  • Working closely with other trades to ensure work is completed safely, accurately and to programme.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment while adhering to all Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.


Your skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Modern Apprenticeship certificate/Trade Papers (must be provided with your application).
  • Relevant qualifications such as SVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Proven fabrication and plating experience within shipbuilding, heavy engineering, construction or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Experience operating fabrication equipment including oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
  • Understanding of fabrication processes, structural assembly and tack welding techniques.
  • Good understanding of SHE principles, COSHH and Risk Assessments.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and at height.

Requirements: Modern Apprenticeship/Trade Papers must be provided when submitting your application.

Desirable:

  • Previous marine or shipbuilding experience.
  • Experience fabricating large steel structures.
  • Current safety certifications such as Working at Height, Confined Space or SHE Induction.
  • Experience working within the defence or heavy engineering sectors.

Overtime Pay:

  • Monday - Thursday: Time and a Third (1.33x)
  • Friday: Time and a Half for the first 4 hours, Double Time thereafter.
  • Saturday: Time and a Half.
  • Sunday: Double Time.


Shift Patterns:

Day Shift (Flat Rate)

  • Monday - Thursday
  • 07:00 - 16:30

Night Shift (+33% Shift Allowance)

  • Monday - Thursday
  • 20:30 - 06:00

Weekend Shift (+33% Shift Allowance)

  • Friday - Sunday
  • 07:00 - 19:30
