Mobile Plant Operator
Location: North Lanarkshire | ML6 7TD
Rate: 17 per hour
Mobile Plant Operator to support day-to-day operations on a busy site. This role requires an experienced operator who can safely operate heavy plant machinery, follow strict health and safety procedures, and support the efficient running of site activities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating mobile plant, maintaining high safety standards, completing operational tasks, and ensuring compliance with site procedures, environmental requirements, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:Health, Safety, Environment & Quality 

  • Carry out all duties safely and in accordance with company procedures, safety rules, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of colleagues and others who may be affected by site activities.
  • Report any unsafe practices, hazards, near misses, accidents, or dangerous conditions to line management.
  • Ensure correct tools, equipment, and PPE are used and maintained in a safe condition.
  • Only operate plant and equipment where authorised and trained to do so.
  • Complete work in line with risk assessments, COSHH assessments, permits, emergency procedures, and site safety requirements.
  • Support a positive safety culture and contribute ideas for improving site processes and energy performance.
Operational Duties:
  • Operate mobile plant machinery safely and efficiently to meet operational requirements.
  • Assist the Supervisor in delivering safe and effective site operations.
  • Complete daily pre-start checks on mobile and static plant and report any defects immediately.
  • Maintain plant and equipment, including regular cleaning, greasing, and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with contractor maintenance activities when required.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards across the site.
  • Follow site traffic management plans and safe movement procedures.
  • Liaise with weighbridge staff and management regarding waste streams, deliveries, and placement of materials.
  • Ensure waste areas are maintained and cleared as required.
  • Complete required paperwork, checks, and documentation accurately.
  • Attend site meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties as requested by the Supervisor.
Essential Requirements:
  • Previous experience operating mobile plant machinery is essential.
  • Relevant qualifications/experience operating heavy plant, including:
    • Bulldozer
    • Tracked Loading Shovel
    • Excavator
    • Compactor
    • Articulated Dumper
    • Tractor
    • Telehandler
  • Experience working in an operational site environment.
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to complete plant checks and identify/report defects.
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Desirable:
  • Previous experience working within landfill, waste management, or similar operations.
  • Completion of relevant competency and training modules.
  • Experience working with environmental permits and waste management procedures.
