Plant Inspector – HS2

Location: HS2 Project (site-based)
Salary: £47,500 per annum + excellent benefits

Carmichael UK is recruiting a Plant Inspector to support a major HS2 infrastructure package. This is a site-based role, responsible for ensuring plant is compliant, safe, and fully operational before entering service on a highly regulated project.

The Role

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you’ll be responsible for inspecting a wide range of earthworks plant and site vehicles and supporting routine maintenance activities to ensure compliance with project and legislative standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out PDI inspections on earthworks plant (on and off hire), recording condition, hours, damage, tyres, GET and photographic evidence
• Inspecting 4x4s, minibuses and other site vehicles
• Ensuring plant is correctly identified and fitted with required stickers
• Checking safety systems including cameras, beacons, reversing alarms and dash cams
• Monitoring fluids, grease pots and undertaking basic greasing activities
• Weekly checks of tyres, undercarriage and wear components
• Assisting with fault diagnosis and reporting issues to the plant desk
• Producing risk assessments and safe systems of work
• Managing fluids stock and COSHH storage areas
• Assisting OEM staff with minor repairs and servicing activities
• Replacing cutting edges / ground engaging tools (GET)
• Issuing Maintenance Permits to Work when required

Requirements

Essential

• CSCS Green or Blue Card
• Full UK driving licence
• Proven experience maintaining heavy plant
• NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance
• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors year-round
• Basic IT skills
• Competent in writing risk assessments and following safe systems of work

Desirable

• CPCS A68 Plant Mover
• Welding experience or qualification
• Knowledge of Caterpillar, Volvo and Bomag equipment
