Overview

Planner / Senior Planner – Birmingham, England. The Birmingham planning team is looking for ambitious chartered town planners who are keen to advance their careers, with openings at Planner or Senior Planner levels depending on experience. The team handles a broad range of clients and projects, including planning applications, site allocations in Local Plans, planning appraisals, and advice on compulsory purchase matters. You will contribute to project teams on diverse development proposals and collaborate with other parts of the business to support valuations, disposals, acquisitions, and asset enhancement projects.Responsibilities

Undertake planning appraisals to advise clients on the likelihood of obtaining planning consent and the most appropriate strategy.Carry out research and analytical tasks and produce client-facing reports.Support the management of project teams (typically comprising architects and other consultants).Prepare planning applications, including drafting sections of, or whole, Planning Statements and Statements of Community Involvement.Prepare representations to local plan and other policy consultations on behalf of clients.Research, prepare and submit appeals against refusals of planning consent.Research and assist in the preparation of proofs of evidence for senior staff acting as expert witnesses at planning inquiries.Meet targets for fee earning from the delivery of project work.Help write tender proposals to win new project work.Contribute to business generation ideas and client research.Work either as part of a team or independently as required.Qualifications

Honours degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Town Planning, Geography, Economics).RTPI-accredited planning degree.RTPI chartered membership.More than 2 years of private or public sector planning experience.Understanding of the development management process.Understanding of planning policy (including Local Plans and other documents).Demonstrable evidence of good report writing, research and analytical skills.Evidence of good project management, prioritisation and time-management skills.Evidence of good people skills and ability to negotiate the best outcome for clients.About Avison Young
