Planner

PSR Solutions are currently recruiting for a Permanent Planner in Hertfordshire. This will be working for a well established Civils contractor who are looking for someone with an Engineering and Earthworks background. Below for more info!
Role Purpose:
To provide expert planning and scheduling support for earthworks and civil engineering projects, ensuring accurate programme development, monitoring, and reporting. Leverage technical engineering expertise to inform programme logic, sequencing, resource planning, and risk mitigation, enabling successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Programme Development & Management
Develop detailed project programmes for all stages: tender, pre-construction, and delivery.
Use engineering understanding to inform logical sequencing of key operations: site clearance, bulk earthworks (cut & fill), ground improvement, drainage, foundations, haul roads, etc.
Regularly update programmes to reflect real-time site progress, delays, and changes.
Technical Input
Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and method statements to build accurate programme logic.
Identify technical constraints (e.g. ground conditions, engineering interfaces, temporary works) and incorporate into schedules.
Coordination & Communication
Liaise with engineers, site managers, design teams, procurement and commercial functions to align programme with reality.
Attend planning, coordination, and client progress meetings as required.
Clearly communicate programme requirements to site teams and subcontractors.
Monitoring & Reporting
Track progress against baseline programme, flag delays and slippages early.
Develop and present regular progress reports, lookaheads, earned value, critical path analysis.
Support forensic delay analysis where needed.
Resource Planning
Plan and coordinate key resource elements including plant, labour, and materials.
Ensure site logistics and sequencing supports safe and efficient execution.
Change Management
Assess impact of variations or unexpected issues (e.g. adverse weather, ground conditions).
Update programme and provide mitigation strategies as necessary.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
Engineering degree (Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar).
Experience in planning civil engineering works - with a strong emphasis on earthworks, groundworks, or infrastructure.
Proficiency with planning software such as Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject, or MS Project.
Strong understanding of engineering processes, sequencing, and construction methodology.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
Desirable:
Background as a Site Engineer or Project Engineer before moving into planning.
Familiarity with NEC and JCT contract requirements.
Knowledge of delay analysis techniques and extension of time (EOT) processes.
Competence in resource- and cost-loaded programming.
