Location: Bournemouth (full or part time)
Salary starting at £55,000 - £60,000

Key Duties Include
The Role
As Personal Tax Accountant you will be an integral part of the Private Client team within this well respected legal practice providing a high level of support and advice to the team.
Duties of the Personal Tax Accountant include:
• Act as an effective point of contact for clients, beneficiaries, trustees, executors and other fee earners to deal effectively with their enquiries and ensure a positive client experience.
• Liaison with clients, their representatives, fee earners and third parties to co-ordinate and obtain information regarding income tax and capital gains tax compliance on an annual basis and in a timely manner bearing in mind filing and other deadlines.
• To use the information obtained to:
o Register the client for self-assessment.
o Obtain and check simple assessments.
o Complete Self-Assessment Tax Returns and repayment claims for individuals, trusts and estates.
o Obtain approval to each return and submit them to HMRC, either online or by post.
o Communicate with HMRC to ensure that clients are charged the correct amount of tax, interest and penalties.
• Ensure all relevant individuals are advised of tax liabilities in time for finance to be arranged, and claim all appropriate tax repayments.
• Provide training to fee earners to deal with simple cases themselves and to recognise issues before they become a problem.
• Provide tax software training to fee earners as requested.
• Ensure all clients are correctly authorised by HMRC so that you can act as Agent and ensure that the HMRC tax records are up to date.
• Prepare trust accounts on a regular basis and when requested by trustees and fee earners.
• Prepare tax certificates for beneficiaries of estates and trusts as requested by trustees and executors.
• To liaise with the residential property team and other fee earners to support clients with capital gains tax issues relating to property and investment transactions. Additionally provide support with computations to assess the timing of sales and assistance with filing Capital Gains Tax Returns with HMRC in advance of the filing deadline.
• Ensure that the information held for the trust register is reviewed regularly and run the annual TRS updates for taxable trusts where we act as Agent.
• Be a first port of call for all enquiries about the Trust Register from fee earners and clients and provide training as appropriate.
• Ensure that the appropriate AEOI, CRBOT and other online overseas trust registrations and other tax compliance are dealt with effectively and efficiently with no missed deadlines.
• Liaise with fee earners and trustees to compute IHT liabilities and prepare IHT100s for trust clients in respect of exit and 10 yearly charges in a timely manner.
• Effective and efficient use and maintenance of the electronic files and case. management. Follow team filing requirements and ensure that files are appropriately named whilst also taking into consideration SRA, Law Society and company own protocols.
• Deal effectively with all email and telephone enquiries and all other correspondence as appropriate to ensure a positive client experience.
• To bear costs in mind and raise fee notes in a timely manner, liaising with other fee-earners as appropriate, and provide fee quotes either directly to clients or other fee-earners.
• To develop new client relationships and build existing relationships.
• To participate in marketing and business development activities to promote both the team and company.
What we are looking for to apply for the position of Personal Tax Accountant are as follows:
Qualifications
• Qualified as an Accountant or tax accountant.
Experience and knowledge
• Experienced in and up to date knowledge of dealing with:
o personal tax
o trust tax
o estate tax
o capital gains tax
o holdover relief
• Working knowledge of Inheritance Tax.
• Experienced communicator with clients, fee earners and HMRC.
• Highly IT literate, particularly in MS office and tax software.
• Experience in working in a similar role in a law firm would be advantageous but not essential.
