We are currently recruiting for an experienced Payroll Auditor to join a well-established international retail business. This role will act as a key representative within the Payroll team, supporting UK operations and ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for payroll validation, audit processes, issue resolution, compliance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong UK payroll experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct end-to-end payroll validation, including pre- and post-payroll audits, variance analysis, and payroll reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Analyse payroll data using Excel and reporting tools to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Act as a subject matter expert for payroll and HR systems, supporting issue resolution, maintaining data integrity, and driving process enhancements.
- Assist with payroll-related projects, system implementations, process improvements, user acceptance testing (UAT), and go-live activities.
- Ensure payroll processes comply with internal controls, audit requirements, and company policies, identifying and mitigating risks where necessary.
- Maintain and update payroll procedures and process documentation to promote consistency and best practice across the team.
- Investigate and resolve complex payroll queries and issues, escalating where appropriate.
- Act as a key point of contact for employee payroll enquiries and third-party communications.
- Support additional regional payrolls where required, ensuring adherence to payroll standards and processes.
About You
- Previous Workday experience
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation including PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, employment regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Experience working with payroll and HR systems such as ADP, Workday, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict payroll deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business.
- Proactive and self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently.
- Able to handle highly confidential payroll and compensation data with discretion and professionalism.
- Collaborative team player with a flexible and adaptable mindset.
