Payroll and Bookkeeping Assistant Location: York (City Centre) - Hybrid working (2 days from home) Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm with an hour for lunch (35 hour week) Benefits: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, overtime pay, well-established and supportive team. We are partnering with a well-established accountancy practice to recruit a Payroll and Bookkeeping Administrator. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in practice who enjoys a varied role covering both payroll and bookkeeping. Due to the office location, we are particularly looking for candidates who are local to York city centre or within a reasonable commute. Key Responsibilities Process weekly and monthly payrolls accurately. Input hours, overtime, bonuses, and deductions. Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements including tax and NI. Maintain payroll records and produce reports as required. Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly. Keep up to date with changes in payroll legislation. Reconcile bank accounts and client ledgers. Process invoices and transactions accurately. Submit VAT returns. Assist with general bookkeeping duties across a varied client portfolio. About You Experience working in an accountancy practice is essential. Strong knowledge of UK payroll procedures and compliance. Confident using accountancy software such as Xero.
