Pastoral Support Assistant – Secondary SEMH School – Tameside

The Role

Are you a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Pastoral Support Worker or Youth Worker who knows how to connect with young people who find mainstream education challenging?

Cover People are recruiting a Pastoral Support Assistant for a specialist secondary SEMH school in Tameside.

You''ll work with small groups of pupils, supporting their behaviour, wellbeing and engagement while helping them access a practical, vocational curriculum.

The school has a strong focus on intervention, rewards and enrichment, giving pupils opportunities to build confidence, develop life skills and experience success.

There is also genuine temp-to-perm potential for the right person.

What You''ll Do

• Build strong, positive relationships with secondary-aged pupils.
• Provide pastoral, emotional and behavioural support.
• Support small groups and individual pupils.
• Help deliver interventions, activities and enrichment.
• Encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
• Support pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Help pupils access practical and vocational learning.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff.

What We''re Looking For

• Experience supporting young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour.
• Previous experience in education, youth work, mentoring, care or similar.
• Calm, patient and confident managing challenging situations.
• Strong relationship-building skills.
• Resilient, consistent and positive in your approach.
• A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
