About the Role

We are looking for a caring and reliable Part-Time Chef to join our small children''s residential home. The home supports young people with emotional and behavioural needs, and mealtimes play an important role in creating a warm, homely environment.

You will be responsible for preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals, taking into account individual dietary needs, allergies, cultural preferences, and encouraging healthy eating habits. You will work closely with the staff team to create a positive dining experience that makes young people feel valued and at home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook healthy, balanced meals for up to [insert number] young people and staff.
  • Plan varied weekly menus that meet nutritional standards and young people''s preferences.
  • Cater for special dietary requirements, allergies, cultural and religious needs.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.
  • Complete daily food temperature records and cleaning schedules.
  • Order food supplies and manage stock effectively within budget.
  • Ensure correct storage, rotation and labelling of food.
  • Minimise food waste while maintaining meal quality.
  • Work flexibly to support birthdays, celebrations and special occasions where required.
  • Promote a welcoming, family-style dining environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Chef or Cook.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Knowledge of food safety legislation and allergen awareness.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Friendly, approachable and able to work independently.
  • Understanding of the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a children''s residential home, school, nursery or care setting.
  • Knowledge of healthy nutrition for children and young people.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
