Role Purpose
Provide senior technical leadership in delivering Protection & Control (P&C) engineering within the UK Transmission & Distribution sector. Act as a technical authority, lead engineer on multi-disciplinary teams, and mentor junior engineers, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and innovative design deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Lead technical delivery of substation P&C designs (11kV-400kV, with focus on 132kV+), including acting as Lead Project Engineer.
Produce and approve detailed design packages, protection studies, relay settings, and technical specifications in line with ENA/BS/IEC/IEEE and client standards.
Undertake consultancy and FEED studies, prepare technical reports, and support proposals/tenders.
Act as CDAE (TP137) and Protection Settings Engineer (TP141) on National Grid projects where required.
Ensure compliance with CDM, health & safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Support capability growth of the P&C function, mentoring engineers, developing processes/tools, and driving safety and technical excellence.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.
Represent the organisation in client meetings, professional bodies, and industry forums; support business development and client relationships.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor''s degree (min. 7 years'' P&C design experience) or Master''s degree (min. 6 years'' experience), with significant UK transmission experience.
Strong track record delivering P&C designs for National Grid, including TP137 CDAE and TP141 roles.
In-depth knowledge of National Grid procedures (e.g., TP106, TP107, TP137, TP141) and technical standards.
Familiarity with CDM Regulations, H&S and environmental legislation.
Skilled in CAD/BIM (PAS 1192, ISO 16950) and Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Strong problem-solving ability, with capacity to deliver innovative, safe, and practical engineering solutions.
