Long Term Futures is recruiting a passionate and experienced Outdoor Learning and Duke of Edinburgh Award Instructor to work in a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Quorn, Leicestershire (LE12). This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and support young people aged 6-17 with additional needs through creative outdoor learning and the nationally recognised Duke of Edinburgh Award programme.
Location: Quorn, Leicestershire (LE12)
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:15am-4:30pm; Friday, 8:15am-3:15pm (term time only)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience and qualifications
Start Date: 26th August 2025 (interviews to take place promptly)
Contract: Long-term with the potential to become permanent
About the Role
In this role, you will plan and deliver inspiring outdoor education sessions, including Forest School activities, and lead the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme from start to finish. You will help students build resilience, confidence, and practical life skills while promoting environmental awareness and safe outdoor practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and deliver engaging outdoor learning and Forest School activities tailored to SEMH pupils.
Manage all aspects of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, including expedition planning, supervision, and assessment.
Promote environmental responsibility in line with outdoor education best practice.
Maintain up-to-date risk assessments to ensure safety at all times.
Work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to align outdoor learning with pupils'' individual targets.
Organise, maintain, and oversee outdoor education and Duke of Edinburgh Award equipment.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the outdoor learning curriculum.
Requirements:
Recognised Duke of Edinburgh Award leader qualifications.
Proven experience delivering the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme.
Experience working with young people, preferably in SEMH schools or with autism.
Strong communication, organisation, and leadership skills.
A genuine passion for outdoor education and helping young people succeed.
