Burnley
money-bag £143 - £164/day
Posted: 27 April 2026 (1 week ago)
Closing date: 27 May 2026
Ref: 225034600

Location: Burnley, Lancashire (Alternative Provision) Contract: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent Salary: Starting up to -32,000 per annum

The Role: Beyond the Four Walls

Are you an adventurer who believes the best lessons happen under an open sky? We are looking for a resilient, high-energy Outdoor Education Teacher to join our Alternative Provision (AP) in Burnley.

This is a unique "train-to-lead" opportunity. While you will spend some time in the classroom helping students bridge the gap between theory and practice, your primary "office" will be the local woodlands and trails. You will work with young people who have found mainstream education challenging, using the outdoors to build their resilience, confidence, and self-esteem.

Key Responsibilities

  • DofE Award Training: Lead and coordinate Duke of Edinburgh''s Award programs, from initial session planning to expedition training.

  • Outdoor Curriculum: Deliver engaging lessons in bushcraft, navigation, and conservation tailored for students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.

  • Classroom Integration: Support students in a classroom setting to ensure their outdoor experiences translate into academic and personal growth.

  • Mentorship: Act as a positive role model, managing challenging behaviours with empathy and consistent boundaries.

What We''re Looking For

  • Experience: You don''t need QTS, but you must have a background in outdoor activities (e.g., Forest School, Scouting, Military, or high-level sport) and experience working with youth.

  • Aspiration: A desire to gain professional qualifications. We will support you in training for DofE Leader, Mountain Leader, or Forest School Level 3 awards.

  • Resilience: The ability to lead in all "Lancashire weathers" and stay calm when students push boundaries.

  • Location: Familiarity with the Burnley area and local green spaces is a significant advantage.

Why Join Our Burnley AP?

  • Top-Tier Starting Salary: Starting at up to -32k, this is one of the most competitive rates in the region for unqualified outdoor specialists.

  • Funded Training: We invest in you. Get your Lowland Leader or DofE Assessor qualifications fully funded while you work.

  • Path to Permanency: This role starts as a temporary contract to ensure it''s the right fit for both sides, with a clear path to a permanent position.

  • Total Impact: You aren''t just a teacher; you are a mentor helping "hard to reach" learners find their path through nature.

Apply Now If you''re ready to trade the whiteboard for the woodlands, send your CV today.

This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

Expert Tip: When applying, highlight any specific experience you have with de-escalation or working with SEMH students, as this is as vital as your outdoor skills.

Are you currently holding any outdoor NGB awards, like a Lowland Leader or First Aid certificate?
