About the role:
The Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable day-to-day operation of the manufacturing business. The role ensures that customer orders are delivered on time, to the required quality standards and within budget, whilst driving continuous improvement across production, planning, purchasing, facilities and logistics. Lead operational performance and support the company's growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Manufacturing
·Manage all manufacturing operations across welding, fabrication, assembly and warehouse functions.
·Ensure production schedules are achieved safely, efficiently and to quality standards.
·Monitor labour utilisation, capacity planning and operational performance.
·Lead daily production meetings and coordinate activities across departments.
·Identify and remove operational bottlenecks.
Planning & Scheduling
·Oversee production planning and scheduling to meet customer delivery requirements.
·Ensure materials, labour and equipment resources are aligned with production demands.
·Manage production KPIs including On-time delivery, Productivity, Work in progress (WIP)
Purchasing & Supply Chain
·Manage purchasing and material planning activities.
·Ensure timely procurement of raw materials, consumables and subcontract services.
·Support cost reduction initiatives and inventory optimisation.
Warehouse
·Oversee goods receiving, stock control, storage and dispatch.
·Maintain accurate inventory records.
·Improve warehouse efficiency and material flow through the business. Facilities & Maintenance
·Ensure facilities, equipment and infrastructure are maintained and fit for purpose.
·Coordinate preventative maintenance activities.
Safety & Compliance
·Promote a strong health and safety culture across the business.
·Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation and company policies.
·Participate in risk assessments, audits and corrective action activities.
Continuous Improvement
·Lead projects focused on efficiency, waste reduction and cost control.
·Implement best practice processes and standard operating procedures.
·Use operational data to identify improvement opportunities.
Leadership & People Management
·Lead, coach and develop operational teams and supervisors.
·Set objectives and conduct performance reviews.
·Support recruitment, training and succession planning.
·Foster a positive and accountable team culture.
Person Specification: Essential
·Proven experience in an Operations Manager, Production Manager or Manufacturing Manager role.
·Automotive experience.
·Experience within fabrication, engineering or manufacturing environments.
·Strong knowledge of production planning and supply chain processes.
·Experience managing multiple departments and supervisors.
·Understanding of Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements including a up to date NEBOSH qualification.
·Strong leadership and people management skills.
·Excellent problem-solving and organisational abilities.
·Driving License. Desirable
·Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement training.
·Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
·Knowledge of IATF 16949 and other management systems.
·Knowledge of AS9100 Personal Attributes
·Hands-on.
·Strong communicator.
·Results-focused.
·Comfortable working in a fast-paced SME manufacturing environment.
