Operations & Planning Coordinator

Salary: -38,000 - -42,000, DOE
Hours: 42.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday
Location: Gateshead (Site-Based)
Contract: Permanent

Step Into a Key Operational Role. Are you an experienced operational professional looking to take the next step in your career? Do you have experience supervising teams, coordinating workloads, managing priorities and keeping operations running smoothly within a manufacturing, production, waste, recycling, logistics or industrial environment?

We''re recruiting on behalf of a well-established industrial business for an Operations & Planning Coordinator to play a central role in the day-to-day running of a busy site operation.

This is a hands-on, site-based role offering genuine career progression into operational management. Working closely with production, engineering, transport, commercial, compliance and SHEQ teams, you''ll help ensure plans are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with operational priorities.

The Opportunity

This role sits at the heart of the operation. You''ll be responsible for coordinating activity across multiple departments, ensuring resources, labour, materials, transport and operational requirements are aligned to support the efficient running of the site.

It''s an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys being out in the operation, building relationships with site teams, solving problems and making things happen, rather than being office-based all day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily operational and production activities across the site.
  • Liaise with Plant Managers and operational teams to ensure priorities are understood and delivered.
  • Work closely with Engineering regarding breakdowns, maintenance schedules and plant availability.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound transport activities with hauliers, suppliers and customers.
  • Support operational planning to ensure resources are available to meet customer demand.
  • Work with Commercial teams to align operational output with customer requirements.
  • Liaise with Compliance and SHEQ teams to ensure safe and compliant operations.
  • Monitor operational performance, downtime and site issues, escalating where required.
  • Coordinate labour planning, holidays, absences, agency workers and shift cover requirements.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, reports and documentation.
  • Support stock management activities and communicate available volumes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Act as a central point of contact for operational issues and ensure actions are completed.
  • Support operational leadership during periods of absence and increased workload.

You may currently be a Team Leader, Supervisor, Operations Coordinator, Production Coordinator or similar within a manufacturing, logistics, production or industrial setting.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experience working within a manufacturing, production, waste, recycling, logistics, transport or similar operational environment.
  • Experience coordinating workloads, people and day-to-day operational activity.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with multiple departments and stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Competent Excel, Outlook and general IT skills.
  • A proactive approach, with the confidence to take ownership and solve problems.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Waste and recycling sector experience.
  • Exposure to SHEQ or compliance processes.
  • Experience supporting operational planning and resource allocation.
  • IOSH qualification or similar operational health and safety training.

Why Join This Company?

  • Genuine route into Operations Management.
  • Broad exposure across production, engineering, transport, commercial and compliance functions.
  • Varied role combining planning, coordination and site-based operational activity.
  • Stable and growing business operating within an essential industry sector.
  • Supportive environment where development and progression are encouraged.

This role has been created with succession planning in mind. We''re looking for someone with the potential to grow into wider operational responsibilities over time. You''ll gain exposure across all areas of the operation and have the opportunity to develop into an operational leadership role as your experience grows.
