Ocean Export Operator
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm (1-hour lunch)
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1 day per week working from home

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Ocean Export Operator to join the Freight Forwarding team of a leading worldwide logistics company. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with proven ocean export experience to play a key role in coordinating international shipments while delivering exceptional customer service.
The successful candidate will manage ocean export shipments from booking through to departure, ensuring freight is moved efficiently, documentation is completed accurately, and all shipments comply with international shipping regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage ocean export shipments from booking through to vessel departure.
- Liaise with customers to obtain shipping instructions and all required export documentation.
- Arrange bookings with shipping lines and transport providers.
- Coordinate collections and ensure cargo is received within carrier cut-off times.
- Prepare, review and validate export documentation, including Bills of Lading, commercial invoices and packing lists.
- Complete and submit export customs declarations accurately and within required timescales.
- Monitor shipments proactively, communicating updates, delays or issues to customers and stakeholders.
- Maintain regular communication with overseas offices, carriers and customers throughout the shipment lifecycle.
- Process supplier invoices, complete customer billing and ensure files are closed accurately in line with company KPIs.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, customs requirements, dangerous goods legislation (where applicable) and internal procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and customer service.
Essential
- Previous experience within Ocean Export Freight Forwarding is essential.
- Good understanding of international export documentation and shipping procedures.
- Knowledge of UK export customs requirements.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience using freight forwarding software such as CargoWise or similar systems.
- Knowledge of Incoterms and Letters of Credit.
- Awareness of Dangerous Goods regulations relating to ocean freight.
