Band 4 OT Assistant Practitioner – Orthopaedics and Surgical / Amputee ServicesPrior experience as an OT assistant is essential.Responsibilities
Assessment of trauma and elective patients who have been referred Occupational TherapyTaking equipment out to patients’ homes and fitting items (training will be given)Setting up / providing follow up visits for prescribed equipmentMaintenance of stockLiaison with outside agencies and patients’ familiesTeaching patients and their families how to use and fit the equipmentUndertaking falls assessmentsThe post is based at Wexham Park Hospital but applicants must be able to travel between all Frimley Health''s hospitals and patients’ homes.To find out more about the additional things we can offer, apply for our post and meet the team. Interpersonal skills to include concise and effective verbal and written communicationAbility to instruct and motivateOrganisational skills, ability to prioritise and manage dayLogical, ability to problem solveIT skillsAbility to conduct and respond to risk assessmentsWorking knowledge of equipment / minor adaptationsBasic understanding of the patient condition and its impact on the therapy interventionDesirable criteria
Negotiation skills, able to overcome barriers to exerciseQualification / Skills / Experience
Essential criteria
Score GCSE or equivalent qualification in English and MathematicsKnowledge of anatomy/physiology/ clinical knowledge of specialtyNVQ Level 3 or equivalentDesirable criteria
Foundation Degree or equivalent in related field or willingness to work towardsProfessional Experience

Experience as Band 3 Occupational Therapy assistant within an NHS settingExperience of working directly with patientsLeading and delivering exercise programmes in hospital settingWorking within a teamDesirable criteria
Evaluating outcomes of equipment useKnowledge of therapy interventions acquired through training or experience within a healthcare settingSpecial Requirements
