Occupational Therapist

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment & Planning

    • Assess patients'' functional abilities, needs, and goals using standardised and non-standardised tools.

    • Develop personalised treatment and rehabilitation programmes to support independence in daily living, work, or education.

    • Advise on adaptations, equipment, or assistive technology to enhance participation and safety.

  • Intervention & Support

    • Deliver therapy sessions to improve mobility, self-care, cognition, and psychosocial functioning.

    • Provide guidance on fatigue management, pain management, and coping strategies.

    • Support clients and families in developing skills and confidence for daily activities.

  • Collaboration & Advocacy

    • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with physiotherapists, speech therapists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and educators.

    • Liaise with carers, employers, and community agencies to ensure holistic care and support.

    • Advocate for clients'' needs in relation to health, education, and social services.

  • Record Keeping & Reporting

    • Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and progress.

    • Produce professional reports and contribute to care plans, risk assessments, and discharge planning.

  • Professional Standards & Development

    • Adhere to HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) standards and occupational therapy best practice.

    • Engage in regular supervision, reflective practice, and continuing professional development (CPD).

    • Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and student mentoring where appropriate.



Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification).

  • HCPC registration.

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy models and approaches (e.g., MOHO, COPM, biomechanical, cognitive-behavioural).

  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage a varied caseload across different settings.



Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in [specific area - e.g., paediatrics, mental health, physical rehabilitation, neurology, community care].

  • Training in specialist interventions (e.g., sensory integration, hand therapy, vocational rehabilitation).

  • Knowledge of assistive technology and environmental adaptations.

  • Experience of research, service evaluation, or quality improvement.
