Nursery SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator)Candidate must hold Level 3 within Early Years and a Level 3 SENDCO qualification is preferable. Monday - Friday 8am-4pm (Term Time Only).Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm (Term-time only).About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Nursery SENDCO to join our caring team. You will play a vital role in ensuring children with special educational needs receive the tailored support they need to thrive. This position requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and a genuine passion for early childhood education. Working closely with staff, families, and external professionals, you will help create an inclusive atmosphere where every child can reach their full potential. A minimum Level 3 childcare qualification is required.Responsibilities
Identifying and Supporting SEND
Lead early identification processes through observation and family engagement.Oversee the Graduated Approach: Assess – Plan – Do – Review.Ensure high-quality, individualised support for children with additional needs.
Paperwork and Administration
Maintain accurate SEND documentation, including Support Plans, review records, and EHCP requests.Submit paperwork to the Local Authority within statutory deadlines.
Multi-Agency Liaison
Act as the lead contact for external agencies (e.g., Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists).Attend professional meetings and contribute to coordinated care plans.
Funding and Resources
Apply for SEND Inclusion Fund (SENDIF) and additional support funding.Ensure funding is allocated to meet children’s individual needs.
Care Delivery
Provide reduced-ratio care and direct support for children with complex SEND.Model inclusive practice and targeted interventions.
Planning and Curriculum
Ensure inclusive planning in line with the EYFS framework.Support differentiation and targeted next steps for progress.
Staff Training and Support
Offer guidance to colleagues on SEND strategies and inclusive practice.Help deliver in-house training and CPD opportunities.
Policy and Compliance
Ensure the nursery’s SEND policy reflects current legislation.Keep up to date with national/local SEND developments.Maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding policies.
Experience and Skills
Background in early childhood education or childcare.Experience supporting children with SEND (highly desirable).Strong leadership and motivational skills.Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).Proactive, solutions-focused approach.Why Join Us?
