Nursery Practitioner (SENCO)

Job Role Overview
The SENCO at The White House Nursery provides expert guidance and leadership in supporting the development and implementation of inclusive practices across the nursery. The SENCO ensures early identification of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), coordinating targeted support and working collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure every child has access to a high-quality, supportive early years’ experience.The SENCO plays a central role in ensuring our setting meets statutory requirements under the SEND Code of Practice and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework, helping all children to thrive, learn, and achieve their potential. This role will be split between office and room based.Key Responsibilities
Lead inclusive practice across the nursery by embedding a positive, proactive approach to SEND in line with current legislation, policy, and best practice.Identify and assess children who may require additional support by observing children’s development and progress, working with colleagues to monitor and flag any concerns promptly.Support key persons and room leaders in developing Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and providing targeted strategies to support children with SEND.Liaise effectively with parents/carers, keeping them informed and involved in their child’s learning journey and any additional support needed.Coordinate referrals and communications with external professionals and services, including health visitors, speech and language therapists, and local authority SEND teams.Maintain up-to-date records of all children receiving additional support, ensuring documentation is accurate, timely, and confidential.Contribute to staff training and development, sharing knowledge and strategies that support inclusive practices and helping build staff confidence in supporting children with diverse needs.Stay informed about local and national developments in SEND and apply this knowledge to improve practice.Attend and contribute to meetings, reviews, and assessments for children with SEND, including Team Around the Child (TAC) and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes where appropriate.Work with senior leadership to review policies, procedures, and provision to ensure accessibility and inclusivity across the setting.Champion a whole-setting ethos that values diversity, promotes equality, and celebrates every child’s strengths and individuality.Qualifications
Level 3 or above qualification in Early Years or Child Development (essential)Level 3 SENCO qualification (essential)Commitment to professional development and a passion for inclusive educationAdditional qualification or training in SEND or inclusion (desirable)Minimum of 1 year of post-qualification experience in an Early Years setting, including experience supporting children with SENDIn-depth knowledge of the EYFS and SEND Code of PracticeStrong communication and interpersonal skillsOrganised, reflective, and able to work independently as well as part of a teamWhy Choose The White House Nursery
