SEMH Music Teacher - Leyton
Location: Leyton, East London
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term
Music Teacher - Secondary SEMH School | September Start
Remedy Education is working with a secondary SEMH school in Leyton that is looking for a Music Teacher to join their team from September 2026.
This is a great opportunity for a Music Teacher who enjoys working with young people and understands how powerful music can be when it comes to building confidence, encouraging self-expression and getting students engaged in education.
The school works with students who may have struggled in mainstream settings and provides a more structured and supportive environment. You''ll be teaching Music across the secondary age range, with plenty of scope to make lessons practical, creative and relevant to the students you are working with.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Planning and delivering engaging Music lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Creating practical lessons that encourage students to get involved
- Teaching a range of musical styles, instruments and techniques
- Supporting students with composition, performance and music technology where appropriate
- Using music as a way of encouraging creativity, confidence and self-expression
- Adapting lessons to suit different abilities and individual needs
- Building positive relationships with students and encouraging them to take an active role in their learning
- Managing behaviour calmly, fairly and consistently
- Tracking student progress and supporting individual learning targets
- Working alongside Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and the wider school team
The Person We''re Looking For
We''re looking for a Music Teacher who:
- Holds QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification
- Has experience teaching Music at secondary level
- Has strong subject knowledge and a genuine passion for Music
- Can deliver practical and engaging lessons
- Is confident managing behaviour and maintaining clear boundaries
- Is patient, approachable and consistent
- Can build strong relationships with young people
- Is creative and willing to try different approaches to engage students
- Understands that progress in an SEMH setting can look different for every student
Previous experience working within SEMH, SEN, PRU, AP or alternative education would be beneficial, but isn''t essential. Mainstream Music Teachers who are interested in moving into an SEMH environment are encouraged to apply.
About the School
The school is a specialist secondary SEMH setting in Leyton, supporting students who need additional help with their behaviour, emotional development and engagement with education.
The environment is smaller and more personalised than a typical mainstream school, giving staff the opportunity to get to know their students and understand what helps them learn.
Music is a great way to engage students who may not always respond well to traditional classroom-based learning, and the school is looking for someone who can bring enthusiasm and creativity into the classroom.
