Clarence Recruitment is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Music Teacher to join a successful secondary school in Rugby. This exciting opportunity is ideal for a teacher who is passionate about inspiring young musicians and developing students'' appreciation of music through engaging and creative lessons.

The school places a strong emphasis on creativity and enrichment, offering students a wide range of musical opportunities including performances, ensembles, productions, and extracurricular activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured Music lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, following the national curriculum and the school''s schemes of work while adapting teaching to meet the needs of pupils with different abilities and starting points.
  • Teach a balanced programme of practical and theoretical music, including performance, composition, listening, appraisal, notation, musical vocabulary, and the use of appropriate music technology.
  • Develop pupils'' confidence and technical ability in performance, composition, improvisation, listening, and critical appraisal, providing regular opportunities for individual, paired, and ensemble work.
  • Use formative and summative assessment effectively to monitor attainment, identify gaps, provide constructive feedback, maintain accurate records, and report clearly on pupil progress in line with school policies.
  • Organise and support concerts, performances, school productions, and extracurricular music activities.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and achievement.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental initiatives.


Person Specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification, with evidence of successful teacher training and a secure understanding of professional teaching standards.
  • A degree in Music, Music Education, Performing Arts, or a closely related discipline, supported by strong subject knowledge across performance, composition, listening, appraisal, and music theory.
  • Recent experience teaching Music in a secondary school environment, ideally across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the ability to plan coherent schemes of work, deliver practical and theory-based lessons, and prepare pupils for relevant assessments.
  • A proven ability to inspire, motivate, and engage pupils of different starting points and abilities through inclusive, creative teaching, clear modelling, purposeful practical work, and appropriately adapted support and challenge.
  • Strong classroom management, organisation, and communication skills, including the confidence to establish high expectations, maintain a safe and productive environment for practical music-making, and build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families.
  • Commitment to supporting students both academically and creatively.
