Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer

4 on 4 off (days and nights)

Company Overview

Our client is a well-established food manufacturing business with a strong reputation for quality, food safety and operational excellence. 

They are now looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join the Engineering team and provide frontline maintenance support across the manufacturing site.

Role Overview

This is a hands-on engineering position providing both reactive and planned maintenance support within a fast-moving food manufacturing environment.

Working closely with Operations and the wider Engineering team, you will play a key role in keeping production equipment safe, reliable and compliant with food safety and GMP standards.

The role will involve responding to breakdowns, carrying out planned maintenance, improving the site's PPM programme and supporting continuous improvement projects. You will also provide engineering support to Operations and assist with contractors, apprentices and engineering stock control.

This is an excellent opportunity for a multi-skilled engineer who enjoys being hands-on, solving problems and working as part of a collaborative engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide frontline engineering support for reactive and planned maintenance activities.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and reduced plant performance, working closely with Operations to minimise production disruption.
• Provide engineering advice and technical support to Operations.
• Assist with the supervision and management of contractors and subcontractors.
• Support Engineering KPIs, departmental objectives and wider business goals.
• Assist with engineering projects, continuous improvement initiatives and the development of site reliability.
• Support the improvement of the site's planned preventative maintenance (PPM) regime.
• Assist with spare parts procurement and engineering stock control.
• Work alongside and support the development of engineering apprentices.
• Support effective shift and absence cover across the Engineering team.

Requirements

• Engineering qualification or relevant practical engineering experience.
• Previous maintenance engineering experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong practical maintenance and fault-finding ability.
• Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Good understanding of relevant health & safety, food safety and regulatory requirements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

• Previous experience supervising contractors or subcontractors.
• IOSH Managing Safely or similar qualification.
• Experience supporting apprentices or junior engineers.
• Experience contributing to continuous improvement or engineering projects.
