Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled, reliable, and proactive Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our engineering and maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs, installations, and improvements across company facilities, equipment, machinery, and operational assets.

The role requires a practical, hands-on engineer with strong electrical and mechanical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a strong commitment to health, safety, and quality.



Key Responsibilities



Engineering & Maintenance

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on plant, machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and reactive maintenance requirements.
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control-system faults.
  • Complete repairs and equipment adjustments to minimise operational downtime.
  • Carry out installation, modification, and commissioning of equipment and systems.
  • Identify recurring faults and recommend permanent corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, faults, repairs, and inspections.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment remain safe, reliable, and fit for purpose.


Electrical Engineering

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on industrial and commercial equipment.
  • Work with control panels, motors, sensors, contactors, relays, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Carry out electrical testing and inspection where suitably qualified.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Assist with electrical installations, modifications, and upgrades.


Mechanical Engineering

  • Carry out mechanical repairs and maintenance on machinery and plant.
  • Work with pumps, motors, valves, gearboxes, conveyors, compressors, and associated equipment.
  • Perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, alignment, lubrication, and component replacement.
  • Diagnose mechanical failures and recommend appropriate repairs.
  • Assist with fabrication, welding, pipework, and general engineering tasks where competent.


Operational Support

  • Work closely with production, operations, facilities, and management teams to maintain reliable operations.
  • Provide technical support during equipment breakdowns and operational issues.
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment.
  • Support engineering improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain adequate stocks of critical spare parts and report requirements to management.
  • Liaise with external contractors and specialist engineers when required.


Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and safe systems of work.
  • Complete risk assessments and follow permits-to-work and isolation procedures where required.
  • Ensure appropriate lockout/tagout and isolation procedures are followed.
  • Report hazards, defects, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workshop safety.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are maintained in a safe condition.


Key Performance Indicators

Performance will be measured against:

  • Equipment availability and reliability.
  • Response and repair times.
  • Planned maintenance completion.
  • Reduction in unplanned downtime.
  • Quality and effectiveness of repairs.
  • Health and safety performance.
  • Compliance with maintenance procedures.
  • Accurate completion of maintenance records.
  • Contribution to engineering improvement projects.


Skills & Experience



Essential

  • Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Engineering Technician, or similar.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical engineering skills.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing industrial plant and machinery.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK driving licence where required for the role.


Desirable

  • Experience within gas, energy, utilities, manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environments.
  • Electrical qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
  • Mechanical engineering qualification.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
  • Experience with PLCs, instrumentation, or automated control systems.
  • Experience with pumps, compressors, motors, valves, and pipework.
  • Welding/fabrication experience.
  • Experience working in hazardous or regulated environments.
  • IOSH, NEBOSH, or other relevant health and safety train.
