Multi-Skilled Engineer
Location: York
Shift Pattern: Rotating 4 on 4 off days and nights dependant on season
A leading manufacturing business is seeking a Multi-Skilled Engineer to support site operations through proactive maintenance, rapid fault resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Deliver planned preventative maintenance activities in line with schedules, ensuring equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and supporting efficient production operations across a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Respond effectively to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing long-term corrective actions to prevent repeat failures.
- Carry out both mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks across a range of machinery, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with operational requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety checks, ensuring all engineering activities comply with health, safety, and environmental standards and contribute to a safe working environment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including equipment upgrades, process optimisation, and engineering projects aimed at improving efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a multi-skilled engineering role within manufacturing, production, or industrial environments, with a strong track record of both planned and reactive maintenance activities.
- Strong technical expertise across mechanical and electrical disciplines, with the ability to diagnose faults using a range of systems, including PLC-controlled and automated equipment.
- Recognised engineering qualification at Level 3 or above in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Experience in a similar role, such as (maintenance engineer, engineering technician, engineering technician, electrical maintenance engineer, mechanical maintenance engineer, shift engineer or shift technician)
- Practical experience working with automated machinery, conveyors, packaging equipment, or similar systems, demonstrating hands-on fault finding and problem-solving capability.
- Good understanding of maintenance management systems, engineering documentation, and health and safety legislation, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
