HSB Technical is currently recruiting for an experienced MIG/MAG Welder / Fabricator to join an established engineering business in Portsmouth, specialising in the manufacture and fabrication of large structural frames and steelwork for the marine and offshore industries.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled welder/fabricator with experience working on large-scale structural fabrications, ideally within marine, offshore, shipbuilding, heavy engineering or a similar environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for MIG/MAG welding and fabrication of large structural steel components and frames, working from engineering drawings and fabrication specifications to achieve high-quality, accurate results.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Carry out MIG/MAG welding on large structural steelwork and fabricated assemblies.
- Fabricate and weld large frames, structures, brackets, supports and associated components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols and fabrication specifications.
- Complete material preparation, cutting, grinding, fit-up and weld preparation as required.
- Accurately set up and position components prior to welding.
- Carry out fillet and structural welds to the required standards.
- Work with heavy-gauge materials and large fabricated structures.
- Conduct visual inspection of completed welds and rectify defects where required.
- Maintain dimensional accuracy and high standards of workmanship throughout fabrication.
- Work safely when handling large and heavy components within a busy workshop environment.
- Work effectively as part of a fabrication team to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
