Microbiology Analyst
Our client, a global contract research and manufacturing organisation supporting the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, is looking for an experienced Microbiology Analyst to join their growing team in Glasgow.
This is an established GMP manufacturing site, and the business is entering an exciting growth phase - this role would suit someone who already has solid hands-on microbiology experience in a regulated industry setting and is looking to bring that expertise into a fast-paced, high-throughput environment.
Please note: this role is aimed at candidates with proven GMP industry experience in a similar analyst position - it is not suitable for recent graduates or those without prior industry lab experience.
What you''ll be doing:
- Enumeration of microbial growth from environmental monitoring plates and other microbial samples
- Microbial identification via Gram stain, spore stain and Vitek
- Sampling and testing of process water (TVC, TOC, pH)
- Environmental and product testing to support sterile IMP manufacture
- Particle count downloads and assessment
- ''At rest'' environmental monitoring
- Gowning and training monitoring of cleanroom operators, including maintaining personal gown qualification
- Inspection and growth promotion of pre-prepared and PST media
- Equipment checks - airflow, temperature (incubators, fridges, freezers), calibration checks (pipettes, water baths, etc.)
- Escalating system failures/deviations to senior team members in line with SOPs
- Reporting OOS/atypical results to key personnel
- Cleanroom housekeeping and disinfectant efficacy testing
- Bioburden validation
- Completing and filing documentation in line with GMP requirements
- Product and water endotoxin testing (kinetic turbidometric method)
- Sterility testing and validation via membrane filtration (e.g. Steritest)
What we''re looking for:
- Hands-on microbiology experience within a GMP-regulated environment is essential
- Degree (or equivalent) in a Science-related discipline, ideally Biology or Microbiology
- Demonstrable practical microbiology skills and working knowledge of regulatory frameworks (GMP, ICH, COSHH)
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a high-throughput workload and adapt to shifting priorities without compromising quality
- Excellent documentation standards - legible, clear, and structured
- A "right first time" mindset
