Metrology Engineer

Overview

We’re supporting a global manufacturing organisation in the appointment of a Metrology Engineer to drive the development, operation, and continuous improvement of metrology systems across the business.

This role is key to ensuring dimensional accuracy, process capability, and quality performance through the effective use of CMM and optical measurement technologies. You’ll play a central role in supporting production, new product introduction, and continuous improvement initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Program and maintain CMM and GOM (Blue Light) measurement systems
  • Ensure metrology software is up to date and operating effectively
  • Conduct coordinate measurement assessments and analysis
  • Support fixture design for measurement processes
  • Lead and participate in dimensional reviews across the business
  • Implement and maintain SPC processes and drive data-led improvements
  • Carry out statistical analysis using tools such as Minitab and SPC software
  • Maintain and develop metrology equipment capability and performance
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and launch activities
  • Lead measurement system analysis (MSA) studies
  • Drive continuous improvement and problem-solving activities within metrology and wider operations
  • Collaborate with quality and production teams to resolve dimensional issues
  • Promote health, safety, and environmental standards across the department
Key Requirements
  • Experience in a quality or metrology role within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of automotive quality core tools (APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA, FMEA)
  • Experience with CMM and GOM programming (e.g. Calypso)
  • Strong GD&T knowledge and practical application
  • Experience in root cause analysis and structured problem solving
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 or similar quality systems
  • Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams, customers, and suppliers
Desirable Experience
  • Experience within high-volume automotive manufacturing
  • Die casting experience
  • Experience with handheld measurement equipment
  • Degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • Six Sigma qualification
