MEP Design Engineer
AA Euro Group are currently seeking an experienced MEP Design Engineer on behalf of a leading electrical contractor based in London. This is a full-time permanent position where you will be required to split your time between the office (East London) and site (Canary Wharf).
Job Purpose
The MEP Building Services Design Assistant will support the design and delivery of mechanical and electrical building services projects from initial concept through to construction. The role will work closely with the Design Team, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, site teams and external consultants to produce accurate, coordinated and practical MEP design information.
The successful candidate will assist with drawings, calculations, specifications, design coordination and document control while developing their technical knowledge across mechanical and electrical building services.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Technical Support
- Assist with the preparation and development of MEP building services designs.
- Produce and amend mechanical and electrical services drawings using relevant CAD/BIM software.
- Assist with layouts for HVAC, ventilation, heating, plumbing, drainage, electrical containment, lighting, power and other building services.
- Assist with design calculations, equipment selections and technical schedules under appropriate supervision.
- Review drawings and technical information to identify potential clashes, discrepancies or design issues.
- Assist with the preparation of design specifications, schedules and technical documentation.
- Ensure drawings and design information are produced accurately and in accordance with project requirements.
BIM & CAD
- Assist with the production and maintenance of 2D and 3D MEP models and drawings.
- Support BIM coordination and clash detection processes.
- Update drawings and models following design changes, site information and coordination meetings.
- Maintain drawing standards, revisions, naming conventions and file structures
- Work with the wider Design Team to ensure mechanical and electrical services are properly coordinated.
Project & Design Coordination
- Attend design, coordination and project meetings where required.
- Liaise with Project Managers, QSs, site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
- Assist with responding to technical queries and requests for information.
- Review information received from clients, consultants and subcontractors.
- Assist with incorporating site survey information into design documentation.
- Support the Design Team in resolving technical issues during construction.
Documentation & Quality
- Maintain accurate design records and document registers.
- Ensure drawings and technical documents are issued correctly and within agreed timescales.
- Follow company design procedures, quality requirements and document control processes.
- Assist with checking designs and drawings before issue.
- Maintain confidentiality of company, client and project information.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation, British Standards, Building Regulations and project specifications.
Site Support
- Undertake occasional site visits to assist with surveys, inspections and design
- coordination.
- Record site conditions and provide accurate information to the Design Team.
- Assist with resolving design issues identified during construction.
- Liaise with site personnel to understand practical installation requirements and
- constraints.
Skills & Competencies
- Some experience or education within MEP, building services, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction or a related discipline.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
- Good understanding of basic building services principles.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to learn and develop technically.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Office-based
- Full-time, Monday to Thursday 8am -5pm Friday 8am – 4:30pm
- May involve working to tight deadlines during project handover or tender periods.
