Mentor- Young Person at risk of PEX

Prospero Teaching is seeking a resilient, dynamic, and empathetic Mentor/Tutor to support a Year 9 student in Worthing who is currently at risk of permanent exclusion (PEX). This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a young person''s life by helping them re-engage with learning and develop essential life skills.
Role Details:
- Location: Worthing
- Hours: 15 hours per week (3 hours/day, Monday to Friday)
- Start Date: ASAP
About the Learner:
- The student finds learning challenging and has gaps in their education.
- They are not currently working at Age-Related Expectations (ARE).
- They have an EHCP, SEMH needs, and may exhibit challenging behaviours.
As a Mentor, you will:
- Build a trusting relationship with the student through engaging activities based on their interests and hobbies.
- Gradually introduce and support learning in Maths and English.
- Promote emotional regulation, social development, and a renewed enthusiasm for learning.
- Provide consistent, structured support in a 1:1 setting.
- Liaise with Prospero Teaching and other professionals involved in the student''s care and education.
About you:
- Proven experience working with learners who have EHCPs, SEMH needs, and who may display challenging behaviours.
- Strong understanding of the barriers to learning faced by vulnerable young people.
- Patient, adaptable, and able to build rapport quickly.
- Confident in delivering basic Maths and English content.
- Able to commit to a consistent weekly schedule.

Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young people
- Trauma-informed and skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies- Desirable
To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:
- Hold right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Provide references upon request
- Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
