Are you a compassionate, patient, and reliable individual with a passion for supporting young people? Prospero Teaching are seeking a dedicated Mentor to work one-to-one with a young person currently in Year 10, transitioning into Year 11, who is engaged in Alternative Provision.
About the Young Person:
- Currently permanently excluded (PEX) and has experienced significant time out of education.
- Needs support to re-engage with learning and build confidence in educational settings.
- Experiences anxiety and may shut down in response to overwhelming situations.
- Looking for a supportive, consistent adult who is a good active listener and can help them navigate both academic and social challenges.
As a Mentor you will:
- Provide 10 hours of mentoring per week, tailored to the young person''s needs.
- Support their educational engagement and help them access learning opportunities.
- Foster social development and emotional resilience.
- Create a safe, trusting relationship that encourages growth and self-belief.
- Work collaboratively with the young person''s wider support network.
About you:
- Experience working with young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
- Skilled in active listening, empathy, and building rapport.
- Calm, consistent, and adaptable in challenging situations.
- Background in education, youth work, or mentoring is desirable.

Full time/part-time - Opportunities for both
Hours - 10 Hours per week- for the right candidate, this can be increased to full time with additional tuition opportunities
Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young people
Trauma-informed and skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies- Desirable
To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:
- Hold right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Provide references upon request
- Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
