Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in the Corby area.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with their emotional wellbeing, mental health and educational development. The role would suit candidates with experience in education, youth work, care, support work, psychology, mentoring or mental health-related settings.
The Role
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who may require additional emotional, behavioural or pastoral support to help them engage positively with their education.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing one-to-one and small-group support to students
Supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs
Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
Helping students develop confidence, resilience and emotional regulation skills
Supporting students to overcome barriers to learning
Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement within lessons
Working alongside teaching staff, SEND teams and pastoral leaders
Supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom
Assisting with wellbeing, intervention and mentoring programmes
Helping to create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment
Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to relevant staff
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
Passionate about supporting young people''s mental health and wellbeing
Patient, empathetic and resilient
Able to build positive professional relationships with students
Confident supporting students who may face emotional or behavioural challenges
A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
Calm and professional in challenging situations
Committed to helping students achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally
Previous experience is beneficial but not essential. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in:
Mental health support
Psychology
Youth work
Behaviour support
SEMH support
Teaching assistance
Care and support work
Residential care
Social care
Mentoring and intervention roles
Graduates considering careers in psychology, counselling, teaching or mental health services are also encouraged to apply.
