A specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Abingdon is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience working with children who face social, emotional, behavioural, and mental health challenges in a nurturing educational environment.

Working alongside experienced teachers, therapists, counsellors, psychologists, and other specialist professionals, you will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning while developing the skills and confidence needed to reach their full potential. The Role

As a Mental Health Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups throughout the school day.
Assisting teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
Implementing behaviour support strategies and individual education plans.
Helping pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and positive social skills.
Building positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and personal development.
Supporting students during transitions, break times, and therapeutic interventions where appropriate.
Collaborating with teachers, therapists, counsellors, educational psychologists, and parents to provide holistic support.
Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to the wider support team.
