Are you a Psychology Graduate looking to gain valuable hands-on experience before pursuing a career in Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy or Mental Health?
A highly regarded specialist school in Wantage is looking for a Mental Health Assistant to support children and young people aged 3-19 with a range of complex additional needs, including Autism (ASD), Moderate, Severe and Profound Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD/PMLD).
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a specialist, multidisciplinary environment, working alongside teachers, therapists and experienced support staff to help pupils develop their communication, emotional regulation, social skills, confidence and independence.
You''ll support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, using specialist approaches to help them overcome barriers to learning and develop essential life skills. The school offers specialist learning environments, sensory facilities and a broad curriculum, providing excellent exposure to a wide range of complex needs and therapeutic approaches.
The role:
- Supporting children and young people with complex SEN
- Promoting emotional wellbeing and positive engagement
- Developing communication, social and independence skills
- Supporting sensory-based and practical activities
- Building positive and trusting relationships
- Working alongside teachers, therapists and specialist staff
- Encouraging confidence, resilience and personal development
The ideal candidate:
- Psychology Graduate or graduate from a related subject
- Interested in pursuing Psychology, Therapy, Mental Health or SEN
- Passionate about supporting children and young people
- Patient, empathetic and resilient
- Confident building positive relationships
- Previous experience with children or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential
