Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is the representative body championing a global community of architects, their practices, students and all those who share a passion for architectural excellence.

They are seeking a talented communications professional to lead media and strategic communications activity across its policy and advocacy agenda. This newly created FTC role offers the opportunity to shape national conversations on issues affecting architecture, the built environment and public policy.

The Role

You''ll lead proactive and reactive media engagement, develop high-impact campaigns and translate complex policy issues into compelling stories that resonate with policymakers, members and the public. Working closely with Communications, Public Affairs and senior leaders, you''ll help raise the profile and influence of RIBA''s advocacy work

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering media and communications campaigns aligned to RIBA''s policy priorities.
  • Building relationships with national, political, broadcast and trade journalists.
  • Securing impactful media coverage and thought leadership opportunities.
  • Translating complex policy issues into engaging content and messaging.
  • Supporting policy launches, events, conferences and stakeholder engagement activity.
  • Advising senior spokespeople and identifying opportunities to influence public debate.

About You

You will bring:

  • A strong background in media relations, PR and communications.
  • Lots of energy and a true passion for securing coverage across national, political, broadcast or trade media.
  • A strong understanding of the UK media landscape.
  • The ability to turn technical or policy issues into clear, engaging communications.
  • A proactive, self-starting approach and excellent stakeholder management skills.

Experience in the built environment, architecture, planning or a membership organisation would be beneficial but is not essential.

Additional and Application Information

This is a 6-month FTC, with possibility for a longer-term post.

The role will be based in London on a hybrid basis. An immediate start is desired.
