Mechanical Team Leader - HVAC

OverviewTo lead and manage a team of HVAC Technicians in delivering safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance and repair of HVAC systems across the Stevenage site. The role ensures contractual SLA/KPI compliance, maximum asset availability, and adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements. The Team Leader provides technical guidance, workload allocation, and full oversight of subcontractors.
Responsibilities
Ensure HVAC systems (e.g. F-Gas, Legionella) are compliant and operational.
Lead your team to work safely and follow all RAMS, permits, and legal requirements.
Oversee maintenance and repairs on HVAC assets like chillers, AHUs, FCUs, and ventilation systems.
Manage work orders, spare parts, and stock levels to keep operations running smoothly.
Coordinate subcontractors and ensure safety procedures and permits are followed.
Maintain accurate records in CAFM systems and escalate issues when needed.
Provide updates to management and support your line manager when required.
Coach and develop technicians, promoting high standards and team resilience.
Ensure work in GxP areas meets required standards and staff are properly trained.
Typically manage 3 direct reports, oversee training, compliance, and subcontractor activity. This job description is not exhaustive and may be updated to align with evolving business needs. Employees are expected to comply with any reasonable management requests.
Occasional travel for training/business needs.
Ability to use company pool vehicle and equipment (where necessary).
Undertake occasional overtime to support business needs to maintain maximum asset uptime, whilst reducing impact to client.
Demonstrable hands-on maintenance experience in a critical environment.
Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a mechanical trade discipline.
Strong awareness of health, safety, and compliance requirements.
Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively.
Good IT skills (Word, Excel, CAFM systems).
Effective communication skills with peers, managers, and clients.
Desirable - previous people management experience.
Desirable - ILM Level 3 or higher.
Working hoursMonday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
