Mechanical Stress Engineer
We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Stress Engineer to join our Commercial Modifications Engineering team in Europe on a contract / contingent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the certification of aircraft interior modifications, supporting high-profile programmes within a flexible, global engineering environment.
About the Role
As a contracted specialist, you will be responsible for delivering structural substantiation documentation for aircraft interior modifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal design organisation procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver structural substantiation and certification activities for aircraft interior modification programmes
- Identify certification requirements and define substantiation approaches in collaboration with global teams
- Produce and review high-quality stress reports and supporting documentation, including:
- Seating installations
- Cabin monuments (galleys, lavatories, dividers, premium suites, VVIP interiors)
- Cabin reconfigurations (LOPAs, PSUs, LRU installations)
- Related structural considerations (e.g., fuselage interfaces, antenna installations)
- Develop detailed calculations, load paths, and justification aligned with regulatory expectations
- Support customer-facing certification milestones (ITCM, PDR, CDR, FAI)
- Ensure all outputs are auditable, traceable, and certification-ready
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Typical Deliverables
- Complete structural substantiation reports aligned with certification plans
- Hand calculation packages and FEA models/results
- Certification compliance matrices, load cases, and assumptions records
Required Experience & Skills
- Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Minimum 5+ years'' experience in aircraft structures/stress analysis
- Proven track record delivering modification substantiation, ideally within interiors
- Strong expertise in:
- Classical stress analysis and hand calculations
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and methodologies
- Authoring certification-ready technical documentation
- Working knowledge of EASA/FAA airworthiness requirements (CS-25, FAR 25, etc.)
- Experience with a Part 21J Design Organisation (or equivalent) is highly desirable
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent programmes
