Previous railway experience is not essential, making this a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a mechanical maintenance or engineering background looking to start a career in railway.
You will undergo specialist training such as personal track safety training (PTS) and fleet engineering competencies, ensuring you are safe working in a live railway environment and understand the systems you will be working on.
A Monday–Friday, 08:00am–16:00pm working pattern provides consistent hours and a strong work-life balance, whilst earning £19.50 p/h. Train passes will also be provided for travel to and from in-service maintenance call outs across the network.
As the Mechanical Service Technician, you will be tasked with travelling across our client’s railway network within a mobile field-based capacity role to call outs for reported mechanical faults on trains in service to perform fault-finding, diagnose and repair CET tanks and associated equipment. Repairing leaks, valves, pumps, pipework, fittings, and other mechanical components. Conducting reactive and preventative maintenance safely and efficiently. Managing tools, parts, and stock efficiently and reporting further maintenance requirements.
In terms of desired experience, our client is seeking to hire a mechanical biased skill set which demonstrates maintenance, fitting, overhauls, and repairs of mechanical components within an engineering environment. You will possess good awareness to health & safety, a positive attitude, be dependable, self-motivated, and able to work alone or in a team. Previous railway experience and PTS certification desirable but not essential – with full training provided.
This is your opportunity to bring your existing mechanical skills into the railway industry and play a vital role in supporting one of the UK’s biggest train operating company networks. With no previous rail experience required, you will receive the support, training, and guidance to develop new skills while working in a key role that directly contributes to the health, safety, reliability, and comfort of passengers every day. Every repair you conduct helps keep trains running safely and to a reliable standard, making a genuine difference to the journeys of thousands of customers.
Joining the railway industry also gives you the chance to build valuable experience and open the door to a wide range of future career opportunities.
