Bring Your Mechanical Skills to the Heart of Rail Operations!
The Role and About You
Are you a hands-on professional with experience in maintenance, plumbing or mechanical fitting? This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced rail company as a Mechanical Service Technician, with a key focus on maintaining and repairing train interior fittings, CET tanks and associated pipework.
You’ll carry out hands-on maintenance, removal, fitting and repairs across the train interior and CET systems. This will include working on CET tanks and pipework, as well as bathroom fixtures such as hand dryers, toilet seats, sinks, flush mechanisms and panels, alongside interior doors and other passenger-facing fittings.
You’ll diagnose and fix faults such as leaks, damaged fixtures and non-functional equipment, completing quality checks and functionality tests to ensure everything is safe, hygienic and fit for use.
You’ll also manage your tools, parts and stock, record completed work accurately and travel across the fleet, with most of your time spent attending to issues on in-service trains. This is a practical role where your mechanical ability, problem-solving skills and attention to detail will directly contribute to passenger comfort and the reliable operation of the fleet.
We’re looking for someone with a strong practical background in mechanical maintenance, engineering, plumbing, vehicle maintenance, manufacturing, facilities, construction or a similar environment. Experience working with tanks, pipework or mechanical systems would be advantageous. Railway experience and PTS are beneficial but not essential, as training can be provided.
The role offers a consistent Monday–Friday, 08:00am–16:00pm working pattern, giving you regular hours and a strong work-life balance.
As this is a safety-critical environment, you must be willing to complete a rail-standard Medical and Drug & Alcohol test before starting and participate in random testing where required.
The Company
You’ll be joining a well-established UK rail operator with a strong focus on providing safe, reliable and high-quality passenger services. The organisation operates a busy rail network and relies on experienced operational, engineering and Train Care teams to keep its fleet running efficiently every day.
Within the Train Care team, you’ll be working in an environment where safety, reliability and attention to detail are essential. The work you carry out will directly contribute to maintaining trains to the required operational and presentation standards, helping ensure passengers can travel in a safe, comfortable and well-maintained environment.
The company offers the opportunity to develop your experience within the rail industry and gain valuable exposure to train maintenance and in-service operations.
Next Steps
If you have strong mechanical skills, enjoy practical fault finding and want to develop your experience within the railway, we’d like to hear from you.
